Very often we receive queries regarding training programmes and courses on Drama Therapy and Applied Drama. To meet the demand Velvi proposes a Certificate Course on Drama for Autism. The course material is written in simple English that can be understood easily by parents and teachers. You don’t need a degree in Drama to Understand. The Material will be sent once in 15 days and each course material will have a short test and assignment to follow. Parents of children with autism/ teachers in special needs schools and students of Drama and Special Education are eligible to study the course. No minimum educational qualification required. Ability to understand instructions in English and capacity to understand lessons in English is required. Unit 1: Overview of Autism: Diagnosis: several approaches to treat Autism : early Intervention. Unit 2: Applied Drama: Definition: Drama for Autism Unit 3: Theatre Games: games to improve fine motor skills- games for socialisation Unit 4: Role Play: how does that help Autism; where is it used Unit 5: Mask for Autism: for improving eye contact and communication Unit 6: Rehearsed Response: Acting Method for social skills: life skills Unit 7: Comedy & Humour: how to tell jokes and how to laugh Unit 8: Integrating an ASD Individual with Theatre: Off stage work Unit 9: Social Stories: how to script a social story and enactment of a social story Unit 10: Sensory Integration through Drama Unit 11: Drama and people skills: making friends and building up conversation. Unit 12: Autism and adolescent issues: how can Drama help manage adult issues. The course materials would be self-learning mode and any doubts and questions would be cleared through email and webinars. There would be a Contact programme at the end of five months and the programme would give an opportunity for learners to meet with tutors and have a practical experience of Drama for Autism. Attendance at the Contact Programme is Optional. The course material is designed and prepared by internationally well known experts in the field of Autism and Theatre. Ms. Mythily Chary, asenior Special Educator and author of several books on Autism, Prof. Dr.Parasuram Rammaoorthi, one of the pioneers in the field of Drama for Autism, Mr. Andrew Nelson author of two books on Autism and theatre and Positive Behaviour specialist at Marshall University West Virginia, Dr.Paula Carter Director of Spectrum Ensemble and theatre artist of State University of Missourrie, Columbia, Ms. Nikki Bettcher Autism Theatre Consultant at Wilmar, USA, Dr.Lynn Adams a special Educator and Researcher in Autism and Ms. Natalie Valencia, Director at The 7th Main Centre, a centre for Disability are the course tutors. They bring with themselves a rich practical experience of Autism and Theatre.
